Low-Income Seniors Get Hurricane - Ready Kits

Low-income seniors in Miami-Dade County Commission District 3 received hurricane preparedness kits last Friday from Chairwoman Audrey Edmonson joined by Hattie Willis, executive director of Communities United Inc.

Edmonson and Willis distributed a portable cooler of supplies including battery-powered fans, flashlights, phone, radio, first aid kit, bleach, water, and disposable plates and utensils. An USB drive was given to the seniors to save their important documents electronically.

“Every year we join Communities United in this effort,” Edmonson said. “It’s crucial that we help our seniors, many of whom live alone, to be prepared to survive hurricanes for at least 72 hours after the storm passes. We ask neighbors to look out for each other during hurricanes and particularly to help our elderly residents get through a difficult time.”
